About this Class

Saturday, April 26th - 11a to 1p PST Too often we have exiled Death. We have built altars of belief around how Death should or shouldn’t come. And in this learned self-protection, we have robbed ourselves from knowing the most transformative experience we will ever have in this body of ours and its inverse a great aliveness that can come from knowing that, yes, we too will die. As part of my end of life work, I created Death Talk as a way to explore our relationship, or lack thereof, with Death. I intentionally use the word Death, not to stoke fear or be provocative…I use it because so many have a negative or traumatic associations with the word, and for understandable reasons. Not all of us have witnessed or will experience an “easy” or “just” death. It’s complicated, it’s personal this dying. How can we create more room and less fear around this word/experience of “Death”, while also honoring that grief, anger and fear may be stirred? We can create a conversation with Death, well before our actual dying. We can learn to build capacity to face our fears, ideas and historical experiences of death. And just like facing any other fear or discomfort, we can thoughtfully and compassionately cultivate a curiosity and willingness to learn about and meet death, as it is. While knowing that none of us will really know how or when we will die and how we will ultimate receive it. This guided, participatory 2-hour class gently opens up this topic and creates the opportunity for you to build capacity to meet whatever is alive for you through: -Both personal and collective inquiry into our current beliefs and feels around Death. -A somatic framework of self-assessment to track sensation, presence and disassociation. -One-to-one dialogue, small group shares and writing prompts as tools of inquiry. ********************************************** This is a sliding scale class, please read about how this sliding scale works prior to registering. You will find 3 price tiers when registering for the class: The top price class ticket is the actual cost of the class. The middle price is for those who are able to meet their basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income. Paying for this class may qualify as a sacrifice but it would not create hardship. The bottom price is for those who struggle to meet basic needs and paying for this class would still be a significant hardship. Thanks to Worts and Cunning for the model!
